Blizzard confirmed today that they will be releasing a game for the Worldwide Invitational, according to GosuGamers.net. They did not explicitly name StarCraft 2; however, Blizzard Korea Company announced that no information about the game will be released until May 19th, at the WWI. Blizzard also updated their job listings page. Has blizzard come back to its glory child? It has seemed like they have forgotten who brought them to the #1 Online Gaming Service (diabloii.net '99).
Will Blizzard and their game (If it IS StarCraft 2) rely on 3rd party tournament systems, as belayed by their StarCraft League Development Kit. It would be hard since not even Team Liquid Tournament (TLTour) creator knew what was going, forcing him to wisely post-pone his release of TLTour 3.
Sometimes we forget Blizzard is not so willing to allow people to make money without cutting them in, as with the BNetD.
I say that it is indeed StarCraft 2, and that they will indeed not support a ladder with it, and I also believe that they are looking for a correspondent for the US version. Don't be surprised if you see an attempt at a ladder system, but us gamers in the community can only hope they stick with who we know, such as TeamLiquid.net, and WGTour.com
Maybe Blizzard will do something right for once, and not care about the politics of it all. We can only hope the patch is their official bridge reaching out to TLT, rather than another blizzard BNetD.
