Interview with Manifesto7: TLTour3

[we are working on having this translated to Korean, please be patient, and subscribe to our RSS, we will let you know when this website is available in Korean.]

Hi Trevor,

I represent the readers who are interested in your connection with Blizzard, and eager to learn of updates concerning the release of TLTour3.

Nice to meet you, Trevor Allen from Osaka Japan via Vancouver Canada.

What do you think the game to be announced from Blizzard Korea Company at the WWI, May 19th?

I don't know what the new product will be. I asked a guy from Blizzard for an extra copy of SC2 if it was lying around, but he dodged me.

What do you think of the new LDK patch?

I think the LDK patch is a really good idea. While perhaps this should have been thought of a long time ago with the number of leagues that have popped up over the years after blizzard gave up the official ladder, I still think this is a step in the right direction. Really it is smart for Blizzard too. All they have to do is cookie cutter a launcher for each league and leave the really hard work up to the fans (who have been doing it all anyways).

Has Blizzard or any sister-company contacted you at all in regards to this?

Yep, Blizzard has been really good. TL.net used to have a much better line into Blizzard up until around the Sandlot tournament, however our contact there moved on to another job, and since then our communication has been poor. Once I posted that the news was delayed though, one of their employees got in contact with me, and apologized for not letting us know earlier. As much as people rag on Blizzard, they are still a quality company.

Are you familiar with the new rules posted by Blizzard according to GG.net (http://sc.gosugamers.net/news/6145)

* Provide Blizzard with the information to create and approve a file package ("mopaq").

I know as much as anybody else does. Ive read what has been supplied to the public, and I was told by Blizzard that we would get our package after the patch, which is "right around the corner" (Blizzard speak).

Trevor, have you received a copy of the material when you request the LDK? (http://www.battle.net/info/patch.shtml)

Nobody will until the patch is out. I asked for the details ahead of time to get started on the backend, but nobody will get it.

Blizzard will give you a launcher that will upload the data to the site. The standards of getting the mopaq will be to be able to handle and display the data properly.

Have you considered the fact that these new criteria may allow all the 3rd party programmers to maybe "open source" a ladder system, allowing for universal gameplay for the StarCraft E-Sport.

I haven't considered this. Once myself and others get the package myself and look over it, then I am sure various ideas will bear fruit.

A modest answer, considering the first announcement of the release of TLTour3 from Manifesto7:

"When planning for TLTour 3, we were planning from the very bottom. There was no WGT and no PGT with which to pair. Instead, to ensure that TLT can be a continuing success, we decided to become independent from other ladders and create our own system. Aware that the community was looking for a ladder, the new TLTour definitely has those elements. Built with cooperation from WGTour, the TAL ladder, TL.net forum members, and Qi.Tiger, the founder of UGT, this truly was a community effort. It is the goal of the new TLTour to provide a competitive place for gamers to play, an effective ranking system, invigorating tournaments, and a convenient system of reporting and admining."
